Russia not to face lack of flour, bread amid coronavirus
MOSCOW, Mar 18 (PRIME) -- Russia will not have a shortage of flour, bread and bakery products amid the spread of coronavirus, the Russian Guild of Bakers and Confectioners said on Wednesday.
“The Industry and Trade Ministry has already announced the information that retail chains create stock in advance by increasing orders from suppliers for socially significant goods. A shortage of flour and bread is simply impossible. The bread market is growing today, the import component is minimal, as there are enough ingredients for the production of bakery products in the country,” the association’s President Yury Katsnelson was quoted as saying.
So far, suppliers have no plans to raise prices for flour, bread and bakery products, he said.
“But a linear increase in prices for bakery products throughout the year is quite expected. The factors of price growth may be an increase in housing and communal services tariffs, rental rates, prices for fuel and lubricants and transportation services, as well as for packaging,” he added.
